SoFi Stadium: How the Largest Sports Stadium in the Country Used Inertia Systems

Ready for the Big Game? So is SoFi Stadium. We’re proud to have been a part of the construction of the country’s largest stadium

Big project. High stakes.

With a total capacity of 100,000 fans and more than 3.1 million square feet, SoFi Stadium is the nation’s largest stadium. The collaborative effort to create this award-winning, $5 billion project was also big.

The need: Work completed as scheduled while ensuring compliance.

The answer: Inertia.

40,000 inspections. 1 tool.

Inertia was entrusted to initiating, processing and tracking the stadium’s 40,000-plus inspections. With its patent-pending intelligent construction drawings (ICD), Inertia provided color-coded location maps that allowed all contractors to identify work that needed to be completed, inspections that needed to occur and the current status of those events in real time.

This enabled all roles to quickly and efficiently manage, update and coordinate tasks across the project.

Inertia in action.

In the diagram below, you can see how Inertia is revolutionizing construction.

The layout of the lower-bowl of the stadium is represented in the Inertia ICD. If you look closely, you’ll see the green lines that signify completed inspections with none outstanding for that element. If we zoom in a bit further, you can see the green signifying completed work. Click on one of those walls, and you can instantly see all the inspections completed by contractor, date and status (success/fail).

Because a major fault was located just behind the stadium, the ability to withstand significant seismic events was a key focus during design and construction. Inspections were essential to ensuring proper installation of seismic components, and Inertia ICDs clearly displayed the status of seismic installation tasks so that they would be completed and inspected before layering on additional trades. This was critical to keeping the project moving and eliminating rework typically attributed to missed or failed inspections that go unnoticed until later in the project.

Go big. Go Inertia.

This project demonstrated that Inertia can scale to the largest and most complex projects.

Being able to coordinate any tasks visually ensures all contractors, owners, owners reps, jurisdictions and inspectors can work efficiently and effectively to deliver award-winning projects like SoFi. And that’s a big win for everyone.
